Welcome to the World of Chanel

As some of you may not know, Chanel has decided to increase their prices of leather goods i.e. handbags periodically.  The first of those this year begins this Monday, February 1st.  In the meantime, women (and men) are frantically purchasing classic handbags before the prices go up.  Now, for your information, a classic caviar large flap costs about $2650.  Come this Monday, that flap will go up in value by 20%.

Why would anyone want to purchase something just because the price is going up?  As my husband would say, it's all about demand.  Sales associates will send emails reminding their loyal customers of such price increase and how a certain item is not available or hard to find.  Said customer, like me, in turn will start to feel anxious about the price increase and will browse around blogs looking for reliable sales associates who will find me the one bag that I have been lusting for.

It's all about the mania, the trend.  We must come to our senses and believe that buying something now to avoid a price increase later will end up in thousands of dollars lying around in someone's closet.  As dear husband would say, "The only way to save money is not to buy something on sale but to not spend money at all."  Oh what a wise one he is.

Nevertheless, go ahead and look for that sales associate who can find you that beige caviar medium/large classic flap or that chocolate caviar petite shopping tote for a measly $1495.  Kudos to you if you can find it before February 1st.

I, on the other hand, have already picked out my 30th birthday present.  :)
